Recruiters approaching you on LinkedIn - scam?

I've been messaged on LinkedIn quite a few times by people presenting themselves as recruiters. Their profiles seem to match this, and the clients/roles they say they're recruiting for do exist. The roles are advertised directly by the companies too.

A few times I've gone ahead with "applying" through these recruiters, as the roles match what I'm looking for. But after they get my CV they completely ghost me. I never hear from the companies either, not even a "thanks but no thanks" email.

Since then I've had messages from random numbers texting me on my phone, also claiming to be recruiters, sending what looks like generic messages. I've never replied. These are people I've never dealt with before, let alone given my number to, so clearly the LinkedIn people have given my number out without permission.

Are these just scams then, to get your personal data? Has anyone actually got a job through a recruiter who approached you on LinkedIn?

I've recently changed industries and in my old industry I always got jobs by applying direct, so this is all new to me. I've been approached again and I'm not sure whether to just ignore.

Recruiters often reach out through LinkedIn, email and phone. If you've a CV on one of the job boards like CVLibrary or Reed they could have got your number from there.
I wouldn't think it's a scam, probably reached out to you, then the role was filled or cancelled and they just didn't have the decency to let you know.
Next time one reaches out to you about a role you might be interested ask to have a call rather than apply straight away thay way you confirm it's legit and get a bit more insight into the role

I've gotten a job this way so not always a scam. In fact, it was quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me.

DH is a recruitment consultant. He finds 90% of people through linked in.

Ok, good to know! I always have a call with them before sending my CV and they're always really "selling" the job to me before completely disappearing. Maybe it's a numbers game! I'm not actually actively looking at the moment but wouldn't mind a change.

I've got a job via a recuiter on LinkedIn. However I get approached by tons of them and have had the ghosting too. I think it's because they send messages to every potential to hit targets and then narrow down to the cream as it were.
I don't think its a scam but I think they are working on commission only and overdo the approaches to get results.
