HR meeting

I've not been happy in my job for a long time and been wanting to leave.

I resigned very recently after a pretty negative meeting with my manager who doesn't like me and has been pushing me back for a couple of years now (I've got a lot of useful skills and she makes sure that I don't get to use them or help anyone). She's bullying another team member and that person has complained about her.

HR knows that I resigned pretty much straight after this meeting. So they want to talk to me about my 'reasons for resigning'.

There are lots of reasons I'm going but the main reason I'm unhappy there is my manager who has made me feel like shit and sucked all the joy out of me and my job.

Should I tell HR the truth or just leave without causing any fuss?

Absolutely tell the truth. If you can't tell the truth you may as well cancel as what's the point. You may not be the only person to complain so they may be gathering evidence about your boss

It depends how you feel. Do you want to give them both barrels and tell them exactly what you think? Or do you want to rid yourself of it once and for all, and go quietly?

I'd be inclined to go somewhere in the middle. Spend sometime typing up your reasoning, like a script so you dont end up ranting and sounding bitter. Be prepared and constructive with your feedback, if your company has values then list examples of where your manager has worked against them.

I think exit interviews are a great opportunity for companies to learn more about what's happening on the beach when the senior team are sitting up on their lifeguard chairs. Unfortunately they're often ignored 🙁

Good luck!
