Good evening.

I have a informal visit to a potential job I applied for in a few days.

Has anyone been to one before. What type of questions did you ask?

Positive outcomes?

Anyone ever been offered a job from a informal visit?

Thank you x

Informal visits are common in healthcare. Gives you a chance to see. the dept and facilities, meet some of the team, ask more about the type of work, and make sure it's definitely something you're interested in before spending time applying and interviewing.

Sorry should have said I got several jobs after I'd gone for an informal visit.
Still had to have formal interview at later date though.

Thank you for replying. I'm so nervous. It's in a total different department but still in the specialist area. Never done something like that before but it's all new to me :)

Very common. I always ask for one if I don't know the place well. Definitely helps my decision making. It's a chance for you to get to know them better and for them to get to know you better. I'd say keep in mind they will be looking at you and treat aspects of it like a (more relaxed) job interview. Yes, you will still have to do the formal interview afterwards. And yes I have been offered jobs this way.

What sort of questions did you ask? I'm such a nervous person which doesn't help

It's a university so I'm not sure my questions would translate across (it's also a long time ago because I've been where I am for quite a while). I think I asked about their plans to build up research (because it was a senior role with that as part of its remit), about investment in it, about the way research, teaching etc was organised, about my role - just finding out more about them really. (I'd also called a couple of friends who worked there for the low down)

Thank you. I know what you mean I'm so anxious about it it's ridiculous really.

This is common in schools too. Great way to see if you or they will think you will fit in.
