Interview with existing team members

I've got an interview on Thursday and part of the process is to meet the existing team for 40 minutes which is a positive and not enough companies do this but a little awkward as the role is new and first time team will be reporting into this position due to growth and performance issues.

Any ideas on what questions to ask them as feel they may be a little frosty.

I'm confused, sorry.

Have I got this right:
You're the interviewee.
The job you're being interviewed for is a newly created position.
The existing team you refer to here will report directly to you.
As part of your interview process, you're being given 40-miutes with the existing team.

Is that all correct?

I think what's confusing me is what this 40-minutes with the existing team actually is. You've asked for suggestions of questions that you should ask them. But are you sure that's what's expected?
In my sector, interviewees spend some time with existing team members as part of their interview process but this tends to be over lunch or coffee. And the interviewee wouldn't be asking the existing team questions beyond normal pleasantries.

Also, why do you assume they will be hostile?

What do you like about your roles? What could be changed? Where are the areas of growth? What do you spend most of your time on? What systems do you use? How are relationships with other parts of the organisation? What big projects do you have coming up? And respond with stuff like Oh, my experience in this area has been. . . I enjoy working on that type of problem . . .

Ime this will be more or a chat and it's about having some prompts prepared to keep the conversation flowing.

Thanks @OrangeSquashAndVodka I have met a future team like you say in a more social situation but not a large part of the interview process before. I think one member maybe frosty due to him being head before and now this position is being hired above him. I really hoping he will be open and supportive so will be a good steer on Thursday to how difficult the management side will be.

@JollyJellyCat those questions are perfect thank you and will give me more insight to how the team is working at the moment. Feel a little more prepared now - phew!
