Confused by SSP

Hi, I wondered if you could help with a pay query.
I work 35 hours a week at a nursery during term time only. Instead of going without pay during the holidays my pay is set 37 weeks x 35hrs x £10.40 divided by 12.

However, since I was due to return to work on 4th sept I have been off sick due to HG with pregnancy.

I provided my employer with a sick note dated 11th sept to 25th sept.

I have just received my payslip and have only been paid £187.40 SSP.

The SSP not only seems low, but I haven’t been paid any wages and it seems weird that I have lost over £1000 for having 2 weeks off sick?

Can you advise please?

Thanks

You don't get wages and SSP. SSP is low, you can see the rates online ( https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay/what-youll-get) and it doesn't kick in until after the 4th day you are sick.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

Your Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) - how much you get, eligibility, how to claim SSP, fit notes, disputes.

I recon you should have had £262.56 but that is if your pay period is 4/9 to 22/9. If the pay period is more or less the amount will differ. I assume your 37 week pay period starts with the new term ?

You dont get wages plus SSP
You also don't get paid for the first 3 days off sick.

Surely you get normal wages and ssp if you're only off for half a month and work the other?

What's your pay period?
Yes I suppose you should have been paid some wages too. Have they paid it separately maybe?

redribbon1 · 25/09/2023 21:46

Its a nightmare as doesn't cover wages lost.

Did you go back to work at the start of term? By the look of your sheet you were off the week commencing the 28th August so you didn't actually go back to work. Tto starts in the September so you haven't actually worked any days to be paid for in September. Your last wage is August was from last year. If that makes sense.

20th - 20th is the pay period.

I didn't physically work the 20th Aug - 4th Sept because it was the holidays but I still should of been paid it as my pay is adjusted to over 12months

You should get 37 weeks plus holiday pay BTW OP. So you should get jut 37 weeks on a TT contract, but 37+eg 5.6 weeks holiday...so paid for 42.6 weeks of the year.
