So basically I got a job in a residential care home in April the home is not open but they told me in the interview it would be open in may , may it did not open June i did 3 days training then was told on training it would now be open in September fast forward to September it is still not open we just had an online meeting on teams and now I’m told it won’t be open until January 2024 what the hell do I do now they have no work for me only random shifts here and there no consistent hours they made me do a 12 hour shadow shift and I don’t think I will see that money until I start properly so what do I do I’m now left in a state of panic as to how I’m going to pay for Christmas I gave this company all my trust I can’t wait until January for a wage and then to delay it even further until for example feb, I’m on uc at the moment but struggling to live I don’t even know what advice I’m after just what would you do in this situation waiting 9 months to start a job can they get away with this (btw this is a care agency I’m working for that give care in peoples homes or residential homes ) they have employed so many people lately that there is no other work to go around thanks for reading

Have you got a contract? Training should be paid so I’d add up all the hours you’ve spent shadowing/training and contact them to ask for payment.

And then start looking elsewhere… if they’re this unreliable already then this will only continue when you’re properly working for them

Know how you feel but got out quicker. Saw the misery coming, it’s entirely sad.

Only interested in getting paid what I’m owed but disgusted at doing no work last Monday then having a team leader say Tuesday morning who stopped replying Monday, sorry mix up I’m not your team leader.

Was not expecting the fight to log on last Monday but it dawned on me upwards of 120 people are on the Covid 19 campaign, during 2 days training it was revealed oh we’d only be needed 10 weeks not the 12. Who conducts training on a developing system so you never know what tomorrow is going to bring.

The dept for Health have very large pockets to spend on DBS and 48 hrs training - no wonder our NHS isn’t fit for purpose. Of course the DWP have wanted to report figures low for these people like you and I in make believe jobs in last few weeks.

The three plus employers I’ve seen so far haven’t had a problem with me saying I think it stinks / not a proper job.

There are plenty of care jobs about 2 options- join a couple of agencies and wait
Or
Cut your losses

Thanks for your replies, I did sign a contract it said I’d be paid £100 pounds for everything that’s for training & shadow shifts and it said in the contract If I decide to leave this money will be wavered for admin costs so I’m assuming they are Waiting to see if I will leave before I get this payment I don’t know it’s just a mess why I didn’t look for a job in the meantime I don’t know I put all my trust in this company and you do your training believing the job is soon to come after I’ve wasted so much time online training the in house training also for a job I may have to leave exactly if they are like this now it’s not a good start & I’m really sorry to you who is going through a similar situation it’s so awful yes they had no problem sorting my training and dbs but no work to give me just a number to them and yes I really want to cut my losses at this point thank you all
