I had an interview last week for a senior role in my team, whilst I'm relatively new to the company, I have worked vaguely related roles and have many years of management experience.
Tbh I thought it was a long shot but a couple of people in the team encouraged me to go for it so I did, but I wasn't surprised someone else who has been there a long time got it. I had my feedback today though and feel a bit crap about it. I was told I used too many examples from my previous job, and she was saying I shouldn't be embarrassed by how I did (I wasn't until she said that) and then she said you're young with a few more years of experience you'll be great. I laughed and said oh I'm actually 31 and she just replied oh I thought you were more like 24. I just feel really crap about it, and kicking myself as I used examples from my previous job to show my management experience, willing to be told this is wrong but genuinely thought this would show my skills more. I took a huge pay cut for this job as its a better work life balance thinking with my experience I'll be able to move up quickly but obviously this hasn't been the case.
