So I started work for a factory and
Last night was my 1st shift - it was tough but made it through 🙄, loud noise, and some dust
Got home this morning and blew my nose & it was black + coming down with head cold I think.

Anyway, I was told to bring my passport and prove of address yesterday which i did and unfortunately my passport is expired and the lady said she will ask the manager but took a copy of it

I called a couple of hours ago to speak to manager to ask her if they will accept anything else but I was told to leave a message and that I will get a call back which I have not received.

Shall i still go to work tonight if I don't get that call?

Yes of course.

I am just concerned they might say they don't want to employ me because I do not have a valid passport even though I have a valid biometric card and and gave a valid share code.

Even people who don't have passports still have a right to work. You have shown photographic ID which is sufficient as they just need to check your residency status i.e. right to work in the UK. You're not boarding an international flight so the validity of the passport is a moot point.

Yes so I thought because I have managed to work for bigger firms without a valid passport and they do not even blink once they can confirm my ID and prove of address and have my share code. So I was surprised to hear it seems they are adamant. Maybe because the firm is got an extremely high number of immigrants 🤷🏽‍♀️

As PP said your passport doesn't need to be valid. They just need to check you are a British citizen and therefore legally allowed to work without a visa.

If you are working in a dusty environment and finding your nose mucus black every day; you absolutely must report this company to environmental health (or fully expect to die from ling cancer).

I was wondering what the nose blowing had to do with the identity check. OP do they give you PPE?

iamnot · 19/09/2023 16:49

@WallaceinAnderland yes nose blowing and ID are 2 different things. I was gonna go on on other issue about the dangers of the job but guess I didn't in the end- my sleeping pattern is out of place as I am very new to this whole night shift life🙄🙈

To be honest, this will only be for a few weeks at the most, I can't do it Lon tern at all, not for me at all.
