How to leave new job after 6 weeks

I started a new job about 6 weeks ago. It’s a very small team and a different sector to my previous roles. My manager isn’t very approachable and has a short temper. There are various reasons behind it but it is really not working out for me and I have decided it’s best to leave. I know it will go down like a lead balloon and my manager will be furious which is causing me increasing anxiety. Does anyone have any advice on how best to approach this? Also, am I required to work the full 4 weeks notice even though I am still in training? It seems a bit pointless and honestly I want out as soon as possible. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

I would ask to speak to your manager and tell them it isn't working out and ask if you need to give full notice.
Do you need a reference as if not you could just say you don't really want to work the notice period.
Sounds like yiu are doing the right thing if manager is quick tempered.

Thank you, I will ask them tomorrow. I feel much better having made the decision so I know it’s the right one for me! I am lucky that I don’t need a reference so if it gets uncomfortable I will just leave, though I hate confrontation so am hoping it doesn’t go too badly.

Hi Barbiegirl I'm just wondering how this worked out as I'm in the same boat, albeit only third week in!
