Does this sound like some sort of scam?!

I could really do with a flexible, easy job I can side-hustle alongside something I currently do which is stressful and not paying fantastically. I'm staying afloat currently, but money is tight, and I have a bit of time to give to something else.

Putting the feelers out, I have been contacted by an agency, and this is what they write. Imo, the pay seems unreal. Does anyone have any experience of this, or similar, please?

,

"Our job scope is to assist the merchant that applies to advertise their products on the influencer workbench to drive their products' data value. So that they can increase their ranking on shopping sites to attract more users to purchase their products in other to expand their market.
The company has its own working platform that runs a complex data integration algorithm and dispatches product data to us and all we have to do is to submit this data in just one click. Afterwards, the system will automatically generate the star ratings of the products and recommend them to their respective marketplaces. Every single click for data submission will be counted as a real data flow, increasing the product's flow and ratings on on-line shopping platforms like Amazon.

Your responsibility and role to pertain the job are to click and submit all the data distributed by the system daily.

As regard remunerations and other benefit, there are two ways to earn. by commission and by basic salary. on commission you will be assigned 2 set of data product to work on, and each you can earn 0.5% of the product price. if you hit merge data which does not happen often, you will earn higher commission of 1.5% and triple profit.
For the basic salary, you will be paid 3 times

2 days, 5 days, and 7 days of work, respectively. You will receive 100 on the second day, 500 on the fifth day, and 800 on the seventh day. To maximize your earnings, you can do it every day and receive at least £1,400 a week."

Thoughts appreciated, thank you.

Just to clarify, my current role is stressful and doesn't pay great! I'm not looking for another job that "doesn't pay well and is not paying fantastically"! I'm looking for something as effortless as possible, just to bring in a little extra income, dip in and out of flexibly. This job above just seems a bit too easy for a decent amount of money (to me).

What does that mean? Sounds quite odd apart from badly written.

fairyfluf · 14/09/2023 14:23

Yes it doesn't sound like anything you'd want to be involved in

EbiRaisukaree · 14/09/2023 14:23

It sounds like making fake reviews on Amazon to me! (Insofar as I can make any sense of it at all).

Which wouldn’t be great, to be honest.

Don’t forget that if something looks to good to be true, it probably is.

ABC123DoReMiDoeRayMe · 14/09/2023 14:24

Yes, I don't think English is their first language.

They are going to call me with more information if I say I want to discuss it. I wanted to see if anyone here had any insight.

Basically it seems I'm just clicking on marketing links to make it look like products are getting numerous hits. I'm not really sure though.

Yes, my feeling of it being too good to be true is what is kicking in.

I can’t imagine you would actually get £1,400 for clicking a button 7 days a week. Definitely sounds too good to be true.
Reminds me of all the ‘stuff envelopes at home earn £££’ ads there used to be. The catch was you’d stuff them all but they would then find small ‘errors’ that meant you wouldn’t get paid anything, despite stuffing envelopes for hours.

purpleme12 · 14/09/2023 14:26

Mmm it just doesn't sound professional to me. Which is enough to put me off in the first place.
So yes not sure I'd be pursuing

Right!

Though I figured I could do a few hours the first week, and see what I get paid. Rather than scrolling around on Mumsnet wasting time and definitely earning nothing.

My thoughts too, but I also think English is not her mother tongue, so giving the benefit of the doubt (ish).

ilovemydogmore · 14/09/2023 14:28

Definitely a scam or morally dubious. If it was that good wouldn't everyone just do that from their sofa? Either bad english or chatGPT.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 14/09/2023 14:28

It's a job writing and/or uploading fake reviews. I wouldn't trust such a dodgy company to actually pay out, even if you took leave of your senses and decided to write fake reviews.

ABC123DoReMiDoeRayMe · 14/09/2023 14:29

I think she's human as she's already tried calling me. I didn't answer.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

Honestly if you want to make some extra cash then get yourself signed up with an agency to do bank/temp admin work, or apply to supermarkets - it’s honest work and you will actually get paid.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 14/09/2023 14:38

Every single click for data submission will be counted as a real data flow, increasing the product's flow and ratings on on-line shopping platforms like Amazon.

This is totally against Amazon etc's terms of service and you're the one that would be held responsible. Potential legal issues aside, you could find yourself and your whole family permanently banned from Amazon, all your reviews deleted, and you could lose any ability to sell anything on the Amazon platform in the future, including if you or they ever wrote or published a book. I know people in the author community who have had their accounts zapped for review manipulation, and they can't sell their books.

As well as that, you would be defrauding people out of money, because people selling those products will be paying money for advertising and this company is telling them they're getting X number of clicks but they're actually all fake and those "clicks" have no intention of buying anything.

Lots of clicks on a product doesn't help it sell. Lots of clicks on a product but no one actually buying it actually harms listings on platforms like Amazon.

This company is screwing people over right left and centre. You won't see a penny of these "earnings" if you sign up and you'll be the fall guy if you get caught and the company will mysteriously turn out to be a shell within a shell within a shell registered from a PO Box in some random country where they've never set foot.

I know it's a tired MN trope, but online surveys would be a better shout.

I'd really like to be able to do something I can do 90 minutes here whilst I'm waiting for DD in her dance class, time I can't be otherwise productive., or when I can't sleep, but am home. Single parent. Zero family support.

OP posts:
ABC123DoReMiDoeRayMe · 14/09/2023 14:44

Thanks. I definitely don't want to do that!

@SisterMichaelsHabit

I also don't actually have an Amazon account!

OP posts:
SilverCatStripes · 14/09/2023 19:28

I don’t think what you are looking for exists - I know that’s not helpful sorry!

Anything that promises you can earn from
home that isn’t an actual contracted wfh job is unlikely to be anything you could actually make money from. I know some people rate the survey sites but you have to do an awful lot to earn very little cash, and I think the surveys are time sensitive so you wouldn’t get many in your 90 minute window.

Are there any skills you have which you could make use of - crafting/art or photoshop or similar so you could create things to sell online ?

Make sure you are getting all financial support you are entitled to - especially from DD’s father, even if he isn’t involved he still needs to contribute financially.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/09/2023 19:40

God I'm definitely signing up for it !

If I could get myself fucking banned from
Amazon I'd save a fortune Grin
