Technical/practical role to management?

Hi, just wanted to ask about other people's experiences of this. I've been working in a technical role at the same engineering company for over a decade, and really enjoy it. It's challenging but rewarding. I've recently been asked if I want to move into a soon-to-be-vacant management position. The management role would likely be very little (if any) of the technical work day-to-day, although I need to have an awareness of it.

If anyone has made a similar move in their careers - from a 'hands on'/practical/technical role to a management role, did you regret it or do you enjoy it more?

Any major pros/cons?

Thanks!!

Don't move from a job you enjoy to management, would be my advice.

I have recently done this and I'm exhausted. People management has really opened my eyes. I was encouraged to go for permanent roles however something held me back. I was handed it on a plate to cover. The reality is my life has become consumed by wotk.
If you have a great sense of humour, can let things go amd switch off you'll probably be ok! My advice would be to ask to shadow and try it first.
