Maternity Pay - Overpay?

Hi there

I went on Mat leave earlier this year

6 weeks full pay
Rest mat pay

I thought I had been over paid 3 months in so let my employer know. They reassured me I hadn't been so I spent the money in good faith.

Now they are saying I have been and want the money back? It's been spent as they told me I hadn't been over paid? They said they will make deductions going forwards , are they allowed to just deduct money from my maternity pay?! im going to have nothing left :'(

I don’t think they can deduct anything from ordinary maternity pay but do you get anything over statutory?

Not now no, I'm on statutory maternity pay now
