Which job is best on paper?

I have provisionally accepted two roles.

I need to make a decision on which is going to be best but I'm so torn and I can't think straight.

Both roles are part time.

First one is £24,000 three days a week. One in office, two from home. Big company. Good benefits package. Team of people doing a similar job to me. Good pension they will contribute up to 10% if I contribute 5%.

Second role is £20,000 for two days a week. One on the office. The second day v flexible. No real benefit package. They will give me 3% pension contribution and the likelihood is I'll get a decent bonus once a year. I'd be the only person on my type of role within the company as if is quite small.

I'm so undecided but need to decide what I'm going my tomorrow latest. Gah!!!

I'd say the first one sounds a better option in longer term, Part of a team, big company usually means more scope to develop and move up the ladder, change roles, increase hours in the future if you want.
Better package re pension, possibly more likely to have better sick pay, dependants leave

Depends whether you're just looking short term and want highest hourly rate, though, which is obviously 2nd job

I agree, the first sounds as if it would be better for career development. And pension is clearly much better - boring now, but could be life-altering when you retire!

But, if you need or want more time outside work, and if your pension is sorted, the second one doesn't sound bad.

First due to pension and long term prospects.

Based on the above I would go with 1 if you are looking for a longer term option - bigger companies tend to have more opportunities and good pension.

Also depends on the sector - I haven't had a bonus in 3 years 😔

Which culture would you prefer? I definitely prefer a bigger office which tend to have a more diverse workforce

Thanks for your responses.

I am keen on job one. However, and I did mean to mention this in my initial post but got sidetracked, we have small DC and my DH travels for work once a fortnight/month.

The first role would make life more difficult in terms of collecting DC. We've looked in to childcare and can't find anyone to have them so sporadically.

In terms of pension we've agreed that if I take role two I'll keep what I would have got on role one and put it in my pension pot.

It's not a bad problem to have but I'm spent thinking about it tbh

Job one sounds much better. Canyon really notget a regular after school childcare 3 days a week? In time this should become available

Soccermumamir · 04/09/2023 13:56

First one 👍

Thanks x

sorry if I wasn't clear - we would need childcare one before/after school a month which is why we would struggle as it's so sporadic
