Early redundancy pay

Can companies tell you that funding will be cut in July 2024 (so you end up building up freelance work and cutting down hours with the company) without offering early redundancy? I feel like they are hoping people will find other jobs before then so they won’t have to pay out redundancy and it just seems a bit unfair? Trying to decide whether to hold out until then and receive about £2000 in redundancy in July 2024 (staff moral is incredibly low however so it won’t be a pleasant place to work and I have enough freelance stuff now to hand in my notice) or just hand in my notice now and forgo the redundancy payment!

If you choose to resign before you are served notice of redundancy, then you aren’t entitled to payment. They are giving you a chance to plan.

This is true! I’m just wondering if that’s normal for companies to do this or are they being sneaky? It won’t affect me as much as although £2000 is a lot of money I haven’t been there for as long as some people, and those people again are cutting hours already so will be due less money.

I am perplexed as to how giving people lots of notice could be construed as being sneaky. Employers are required to inform and consult with employees when they know such changes are coming. And no, they don’t have to make roles redundant before they are good and ready.
