stepping down before pushed thread 2, the twist

Hi work gurus, here is my previous thread (I hope this is good thread etiquette) https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/work/4868091-ive-had-to-step-down-from-management-before-i-was-pushed-what-now?page=2&reply=128457074.

I haven't spoken to either Big Boss or Little Boss since 1 August when I said I was stepping down. I've been on holiday most of the time.

Today I met with Little Boss who was anxious to see if anything had changed and generally to make sure the department was running ok which obviously it is.

Little Boss appears to favour me staying and is supp;ortive (in a way consistent with his primary loyalty to Big Boss).

I have agreed there is no hurry to do any dramatic announcements. I have said I can't stand behind budget predictions if I don't know or agree with the plan for the department.

The most significant thing was we agreed that Big Boss and I are just going to experience the same problems over again because of our different but equally passionate personalities. I said what I said on the other thread: that Big Boss doesn't have faith in me as a leader because I am not in his image, and that I don't have faith in him as a manager of me.
It seems there is a prospect of Little Boss becoming my manager instead, which would be much better.

Any thoughts wise ones? The job market is not what it was, I'm paid well and really the only problem is Big Boss..... of course, it depends if New Colleagues are nice but I'll know more about that soon.

Little Boss' loyalties lie with Big Boss and my fear is that they are keeping you sweet in the short term so that they have time to build back-up plans before they let you go. In your shoes I would use the time you have to find something else before you are pushed.

Thank you Asiama

it was nice to be treated more respectfully but you are right. I said today that if Big Boss continues as my line manager we’ll get the same thing again.

if I go self-employed (the obvious option) it will take years to replace the income… but I guess that’s what I’m looking at.
