Would love to hear some views on moving from industry to big 4.
I’m an HR professional but have spent the past few years focused on internal people consulting at my current company (large FTSE100). So change management, org design, and also in the deal space (integration, acquisitions, divestment). I’ve been at my company since graduating 9 years ago - started on a fast track scheme and had plenty of opportunity to grow ‘upwards’ and in breadth. But not sure I have another 9 years in me here..!
I’m aware of the ‘people in deals’/HR-related transaction advisory services in the Big 4, and it’s that area I’m interested in. I’m concerned though whether if I wait too much longer, if it’s only going to get harder to be able to make the move?
For example, the whole internal networking to get on projects would be new to me, having to build a whole network, just getting to know how to operate in consultancy vs. industry. I wonder if that gets harder the longer I leave it, and I would limit progression if I were to move.
In addition I fear with another internal promotion in the next 2years or so, I would price myself out for my relevant experience level. I’m already on 80k (base + allowances), v. generous bonus and pension. But I might be underplaying what level of the respective hierarchy I could move to.
Any views? Am I overthinking this?!
