Ill and have asked to reschedule 2nd interview…

but the message I got back was they’d have to see where they are tomorrow and let me know. I’m now thinking they can’t be that interested in me for the role or they’d have allowed me to reschedule.

I'm genuinely ill and GP said better to stay home and rest for a few days rather than spread it around. I’m coughing, have a high temp etc.
I just feel so frustrated that I’ve probably missed my chance for this great job! Has anyone else had to reschedule an interview?

It’s a shame, but if they had a number of good candidates who had attended / could attwbd and a deadline to complete the recruitment it’s not that surprising they don’t want to reschedule, getting time in people’s diaries is a pain at short notice.

This is standard, if you are not able to make the date they have scheduled and they find a suitable candidate that day then they may not wish to wait to schedule a further interview, it can be difficult to get everyone together and delays the process. It doesn't mean you won't get the job, just that they realistically don't want to delay

I've had to reschedule interviews before (due to illness or a work conflict) and they've always gone ahead with the reschedule. But it does sound like they're not hugely keen on doing this for you. Maybe they have a couple of strong candidates from the first round and are waiting to see if they perform as expected before they confirm if they want to also interview you again. Bad timing but these things happen unfortunately.

It's a pity but in my organisation we couldn't reschedule (tho perhaps for a 2nd interview there would be more latitude).

We always have a panel comprising internal members from another part of the organisation & external members, and there's no way we could arrange a separate day.

Thanks all. I’ll wait to hear but I’m not convinced it’ll happen now.
