New job and imposter syndrome

Any advice for this horrible feeling? It's my first day on Wednesday and I'm convinced they'll realise they've made a mistake and ask me to leave on my first day!

I still can't believe I was offered the job (promotion and pay rise!)

I'm even worried about letting down the recruiter who was involved.

Usually I don't give a hoot about recruiters and I'm usually quite confident so this is all brand new for me. How do I cope?

😆

It's the first job I've had with a proper HR department too! I'm finding it very daunting (I've always worked for small businesses before!)

It is always nerve wracking starting a new job. You need to keep telling yourself they picked you for the job out of the other applicants so they think you are more than capable, and the right person for the job.

Good luck for Wednesday, and remember to tell yourself you were specifically chosen for the job when you hear that little voice, and you will do well.

@stormytwilightnight thank you so much!!

I can't believe they picked me!

I started thinking when I started my new job that if I'm questioning my abilities and why they chose me then I'm also questioning the recruiting manager's ability to pick good candidates.

Good luck! You'll do great

Very good point! Here's hoping. I have fluttery stomach already.

Thank you :)

Congratulations! It sounds very exciting and they obviously saw something amazing in you to choose you over all the other candidates. You'll do great!

Hi OP, just showing some solidarity as I started a new job and I've been sick with anxiety all week. I feel like I'm making a terrible first impression and I'm in over.my head. I know it's always awful when you first start but it is really getting to me this time. I wish you good luck in your role and hope we both get past the imposter syndrome and anxiety quickly 🤞
