Waiting for interview outcome

Hey Mumsnet,

I had a second interview on Friday last week and am stil awaiting the outcome. I contacted HR today and their response was they will be "in touch soon to discuss and inform the outcome". I was feeling pretty positive after the second interview but now I'm a bit worried. When someone says soon, how long would you expect to wait? A couple of days/a week/longer? This is a great opportunity for me but will come with huge change so would like to know sooner rather than later! I know it's probably a case of "how long is a piece of string" but any discussion on here would be a good distraction whilst I wait! I'm fed up of refreshing my emails, ha!

Thank you!

I guess it depends how many of you made it to that interview stage?
If there's 5 candidates to see, and you were first, might take 'em a week to wrap everything up, properly discuss and select etc.
Either way, in my experience, it's rarely more than a few days after the last interview.

Keep positive though, fingers crossed for you!

In my experience, interview outcomes are either very quickly (within a few days) or a long time (longest 6 weeks - I assumed I had been unsuccessful). It could be someone is ill/on holiday and so the final decision has not yet been made.

Fingers crossed for you.

An interview outcome should be relatively quick if they are a decent employer. The response they gave is pretty telling and I would be wary of working for a company like this. I do a lot of recruitment and I would not leave it a week before i gave an outcome.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Really helpful and a welcome distraction!

@Lucyintheskywithadiamond - oh really? Sorry for my ignorance but what is telling about it? If I did take this job it would mean moving countries so be helpful to hear your concerns - wouldn't want to move all the way there and find out they are a terrible employer!

Hey all, everyone is probably fed up with me by now (I know my DH is). It's been two weeks today since my second interview. I followed up last week and was told I would be contacted soon, it's now been another week and heard nothing. Should I email them again or just leave it and assume I haven't gotten the job? DH says I should just leave it but I feel like I need to know either way as otherwise the hope still lingers... what would you do? Any suggestions/thoughts would be fab! Thanks guys 😀

@Bishbashbosh123 i would leave it, maybe chase after another week. It might be they are agreeing an offer ( this can take a while in my experience) , it might be someone is on leave who needs to sign off. It might be they are waiting on another candidate to accept or reject and you are next to be offered? I know it is hard!!

That's a ridiculously long wait. I'd just assume it's a no and get on with my life.

I had an interview last Tuesday and not hearing before the weekend has been frustrating enough! They want a start date ASAP so I was hoping they'd make a prompt decision.

Bishbashbosh123 · 11/09/2023 15:21

@useitorlose how did you get on? Did you get the job? Hope you did

We are now on the 4th week of waiting, I did email at the end of last week and they responded saying that one of the hiring managers was on leave until this week and they would get back to me. Why they couldn't tell me that prior to me emailing I don't know?! I'm getting a bit fed up to be honest, their communication has been pretty shocking - I've had to chase after every stage. It's the HR person that has been rubbish, other than that the interviewers communication has been pretty good! Hopefully I will hear by the end of this week otherwise I think I'm going to write it off! The uncertainty is the worst part!!

Thanks @Gizlotsmum, apparently one of the hiring managers was on leave until this week - just wish they had let me know that previously so I could manage my expectations! Hopefully I hear by the end of this week, don't think I can take much more uncertainty!!

No news today either! I have an interview with a different company tomorrow though.

@useitorlose good luck for tomorrow!! Hope it goes well. Annoying that the other job hasn't gotten back to you yet, hopefully they don't keep up waiting too long 🤞

Did you get the job? Stumbled across this post as I’m in the same position!
