I’ve been at my current role for 2 years now. Autumn 2022, I got promoted. I’m 25 and to get promoted after 1 year is relatively quick and rare but not unheard of I don’t think. Pay is up at the 90% percentile. The job has been overall great all up until autumn 2022. Ever since then, I feel like newly recruited people try to undermine my decision. In my profession, without my sign off, workers cannot action a piece of work without my ‘stamp’ legally. I won’t get into too much detail about my profession. I have a nice relationship with my boss up till then. After Christmas 22, I know people bad mouth me to my boss and my boss pulled me up for ‘working too much’ and ‘not taking enough tea breaks’ and if I’m 5-10 mins late, that has a “massive” impact on workload. I’m extremely saddened and disappointed about this because I know I have done good work there and that’s why they promoted me so quickly. I put in 100% effort in everything I do and I never want to put anybody down.
common themes I noticed:
- wants you to work and be a good ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ don’t ask questions.
- if you raised something, they say they will ‘support’ you. Every 5 mins they say ‘ I want to support you in every way I can’ but they don’t actually.
- would rather you say ‘everything is good’ but if you say don’t seek advice from seniors, they become petty.
- question my profession judgement and then invite a guest speaker who is an expert in an area to say the same thing I based my profession judgement on . At the time I made that judgement, to their eyes it’s a waste of time. Ironically invited the expert but their expert advice is something the whole team should reflect on and take home.
Im thinking of leaving the team. I feel like some people are jealous of me..? I have 1-2 colleague that raised something similar to me so I know it’s not just me (I hope!)
what’s everyone’s thoughts? Should I. Suck it up and get on with it or look for something else? I just know that everywhere is probably the same…
