FTC

I am a B5 nurse, 20 years NHS experience with a short break in service when I left to go to Primary Care nursing for a year. I am working in a unpleasant workplace and have only been there for 7 months.

Question is I applied for a very exciting opportunity with another Trust but is an FTC (9 months)with the possibility to transition into permanent subject to funding etc. My DH has a good job so we can cover if worst case in 9 months I am jobless. Also, whilst I know I may not get the first job I apply for should this happen I am sure I would be able to get something else, even if I have to wait a few months.

Please can I have mumsnetters thoughts on this? (DH is supportive of it all).

If DH is supportive and you are financially capable of taking the risk, absolutely go for it!

What are your qualms?

I think I'm just personally worried about the risk @Doggymummar and @RedWineRedFace . As much as I hate working where I am giving a permanent job up for a 9 month FTC seems risky. However it could potentially open up other doors and also possibly turn permanent. I'm not very good at taking risks and I wanted to see what others would do in my situation 😕

Several years ago I did this. Was no longer happy in job I was in and saw really interesting job but was only 9 month FTC due to funding. Went for a visit and had a good discussion with the manager so felt reasonably confident I wouldn't end up jobless.
The funding wasn't continued but they were developing a new post in a similar area of work which came available and I've been there ever since.

If it interests you I'd say go for it, maybe have a chat to them about future opportunities. You could always do bank work if worst came to the worst until you get something else. But as a nurse you'll never be out of work

Ah ok. I work in FTC all the time. Sometimes there is a gap between contracts but you say your oh can bridge that so I don't see any issues. Maybe I am blasé
