As already said, don't take checked luggage! I travel a lot overseas for work so some of my tips:
Work out how you're going to get from the airport to the hotel and make sure you know which airports you are travelling to and from (check for example it's JFK both ways and not EWR for flight)
Have some dollar bills ready for tips (get them before leaving).
Check your data roaming rules on your professional mobile phone
Wear flattish comfortable shoes for networking events.
Plan your luggage including carry on - if you have a little suitcase and a laptop bag have a tiny handbag that you can stuff in another piece of luggage if challenged.
Have you got business cards? Digital or physical.
Is your passport valid? Don't forget your ESTA.
How will you pay for your hotel and meals? Professional credit card?
Check out your employer's policy for reimbursing food, drinks and alcohol, especially for colleagues.
I don't know if you drink alcohol, but if you do, don't get drunk and make your excuses if necessary.
Have a few questions ready for meeting people.
How was your journey?
What's your role? What do you enjoy about it?
Where are you from?
Have you been to New York before? What do you recommend doing here?
And don't stress about jet lag. You will get it and probably wake up very early. Just read a book and go with it.
