Just wondering if anyone knows if the examiners at HMPO work from the office or home or if they are employed directly by HMPO or the service is outsourced to a private company

HMPO are part of the Home Office - so they are civil servants and not a 3rd party

As for whether they work from home or in the office - you'll need to ask Margery 😂

In answer to your question, last year there were a lots of temps working from home checking and taking calls they then passed on the documents to a "proper" HMPO to examine the documents and approve the passport. Most of them WFH as the government had difficulties in getting them back in the office
