Ended up as glorified admin assistant in new role

So I made a sideways move 6 months ago as I didn’t think the long term prospects were looking great for my previous employer. I am lower mid level in my industry and thought the job I was moving to was broadly similar.

That has turned out not to be the case and I have gone from having substantive responsibility and my own work streams to basically being used as an admin assistant for the rest of my new team.

I’d say 80% of my time is spent on admin tasks- think filing documents to the system, dealing with client invoices, work trackers, file openings, filling in template pitch documents, taking meeting minutes, collating menu choices and seating plans for events etc.

In addition, my new team is a lot more hierarchical- where at my old employer I’d have worked directly with a senior manager on a certain task, there are now 4 layers.

Is my only option to look elsewhere/approach my old employer as frankly I am board shitless and am not getting the development opportunities I would like. I have discussed the situation with my manager and there have been promises to get me a better quality of work but very little has actually changed.

I love being an EA, £70k a year, 100% remote working, and manage my own time, but it's not for everyone.

What does it say in your job description in your contract?

@user64827723

I am employed in a professional, graduate role and my job title reflects that but that hasn’t turned out to be the case.

If nothing has happened after having had discussions with your manager, then yes I'd say it was time to move on. This will only drag your CV down the longer you are there.
