Should I apply?!

Currently work in a school, support staff. Been there quite a few years, have felt ready for a change for a while, although must admit, I do like the holidays. It’s local to me, so I walk there.

A different position has become available within a different school, more money, more hours (which I don’t mind) however it’s further away and as a non-driver, although I don’t mind walking further, I have to consider I’d be walking in all weather & in dark mornings & dark evenings. It’s very different job to what I am doing now, but I’m no real stranger to it as I have done similar work before doing what I do now, only not for a while, so that’s where I feel a little less confident & being a bit older, I don’t feel like I pick things up as quick as I use to!

Part of me wants to apply, another part says what’s the point, I can’t really get there.

Do you need/want the extra money? Would a bike help with the commute?

HappyHolidai · 01/08/2023 15:32

Can you ride a bike? Or learn to drive? Or get the bus? Or get a taxi only on the awful days?

Sounds like a good opportunity so don't talk yourself out of it before you've even started.

Extra money would be very helpful. I haven’t rode a bike since I was about 12, so I’d be pretty dangerous I reckon & I must be dangerous at driving as I failed my test about 6 times! Mind you didn’t start learning until in my 40’s & that was a huge mistake as should’ve done it when I was 17. But that’s not to say I wouldn’t try again, I know how to drive, it’s just money, I’d like to think I’d give it another go sometime.

Yes I must stop putting obstacles in my way, I just think of practicalities, I think I’m just as afraid of getting the job as not getting it - which sounds stupid, but I’m not the most confident but at the same time I think why not? Why shouldn’t I go for it, I want to try & improve on some areas in my life & I must push myself to do it, things won’t just fall into my lap. If I don’t get it, at least I’ve tried and not let the opportunity pass me by. Now I just have to take my own advice & stick to it!

You never forget how to ride a bike. You may be wobbly that first go but it comes straight back.
