How do you prepare yourself for a nightshift?

So I've just started a new job working in a carehome for 3-4 nights a week, 12 hour shifts.. 7.30pm to 7.30am

How do you prepare for a night shift? What time do you wake up in the morning knowing you have a shift that night? And what time do you go back to bed?

One thing I have done for myself is knowing if I am not back in the morning I come home then I'll only sleep till 12pm then I do have a really good night sleep that night 🤣🤣

What is your routine?

I do a crazy shift pattern
3day, 3nights and 6 off.
first night I still wake up at 7am so just do 24+ hours awake.
next two days spend asleep or at work. The hard one is at the end I only sleep 3 hours then get up to try and get my body clock back into being awake during the day.
