Giving Longer Than Required For Notice Period

This is not for me but a colleague of mine who is employed as support staff in a primary school, she has been offered a better position in another school so is sadly leaving us. She only needs to give 1 month notice as per her contract but would like to be paid for the full duration of the holidays making her last working day 31st August.
Our principal is pressing her to resign early, giving her one months notice by the end of the week, this will give her roughly a weeks less pay. Can she give longer than the months notice, and if so do they have to pay her for the full notice period?
TIA!

Why risk it? Ignore the principle and give her notice when is best for her, its only a week and a half.
