How long between job offer phone call and email?

It's been a very long time since I've been offered a job so I can't remember what's normal. The hiring manager called me yesterday near the end of the working day to say I'd got the job (yay!), and there would be an email with details of the offer through from HR. I assumed it would come through very quickly, but 24 hours later have received nothing. Should I be following up or am I being impatient?

Congratulations! It depends hugely on the individual company and then how busy / efficient the HR team is. They often need to get sign off from multiple people too.

I would say contact them tomorrow morning if it's not there by 10/11 - 'just wondering what expected time scales are for the offer letter etc'

I'd give them a bit longer. Maybe till Friday

If it's NHS a week or more

Civil service can be a few days to a couple of weeks.

It was months for me! This was because they couldn't send the official offer letter until they had seen my passport which was away being renewed and my DBS had to be done too. I think the whole process took four months...

Thanks everyone. They haven't asked for any paperwork yet, I am just waiting for an email which will be getting the ball rolling rather than finalising the process. We need to negotiate salary for one thing!

Anyway it seems like I should wait a little longer then politely ask about timescales!
