Interim head

Hi my boss is ooo on long term sick so I’ve been asked to work in interim capacity until they returns. Would you ask for a bonus to cover the extra responsibility? It’s not going to be a walk in the park so wondering if this is usual to ask?

I would definitely expect a higher pay for the time to cover the role, otherwise I wouldn't.

Depends on the length of time you are expected to cover, but yes, ask. If it’s a reasonable length of time then you would be likely to receive something but are unlikely to be paid at the same rate as the head.

Yes if it is for a reasonable length of time and not a couple of weeks you should ask. I would call it a temporary salary uplift or similar rather than a bonus though. Bonus might suggest some discretion.

Yes - if it is as a head 'teacher' they will probably be receiving insurance absence money too to employ someone in their absence. Often schools quietly expect others to cover without payment and the money slips into the general budget instead.
I would ask the business manager or similar if insurance is being claimed.
