New job, same employer, same pay grade

I’ll find out tomorrow if I’ve been successful with a job I applied for. It’s the same pay grade and same employer but a different department. The benefits for me are less stress (no line management, no dealing with the public) and more WFH which reduces commuting costs.

The job is advertised at £35k which is the bottom of my pay grade, but I’m already on £41k which is just above midpoint. Partly because I have a contract that says that after 5 years if you haven’t hit midpoint you will be bumped up to that (they don’t issue those contracts anymore).

If I get offered the job, I will obviously ask them to match the pay, but I’m guessing they don’t have to? Anyone have any experience with this? I don’t know if I should take it at the lower pay. It’s taken years to get to £41k, but I really want to escape my stressful job and this is a brilliant opportunity.

i would definitely ask to match the pay but again if you say its a less stressful job, it may not worth the same salary as your previous one.

It’s the same pay grade so they always advertise jobs at the bottom of the grade regardless. If (when) I leave my job it will be advertised at £35k.
