Civil Service job - Waiting List

Slowie · 12/07/2023 07:53

Hi, I applied for a civil service job, and after weeks of waiting, I was informed yesterday that I didn't get the position I had applied for. 😢😭 However, they did mention that I had met the required standards, and as a result, my name has been placed on a waiting list for 12 months, until July 2024. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Were you eventually offered a suitable position and If so, how long did you have to wait?

I haven't but currently on the other side of recruitment. There is a massive lag in recruitment at the moment so i literally have people begging me for the reserve list from my recruitment. every person on my reserve list will be offered a role. However, the process is ridiculously slow and it will likely take a few weeks/months

OP while it depends on the job, many many jobs are filled from the reserve list, especially a generic trawl like this one sounds (rather than a one off specialist job). Don’t give up hope but it maybe a while.

Thank you so much for this. I have been on a career break for 8 years and now I need to get back to work. I really like to work in civil service but at the same time, I need to find a job asap (for financial reasons). I guess I carry on with my job hunting and see what happens.

Not sure! I'm on 4 CS reserve lists at the moment!

Hi- could I possibly ask how long SC vetting is currently taking? I’ve just been out in first place reserve and person getting job doesn’t actually want it til March 2024…. I think they hope vetting will take that long. Just wondering what’s the current timescales for SC as if it’s much quicker he may have to decline….( can’t take til March 24 as has to retire first from another role) thanks!

Hi- I’ve just passed interview for G7 civil service role but one person scored higher and got offerred the job. It’s Home Office if makes ang difference. I know he can’t start u ril March 2024 ….. is it feasible currently for SC vetting/checks to take that long currently ? Can he decline if so and join reserve list instead? If I stay on reserve- is there any chance at all of a G7? Thanks. I’d be coming from outside CS

I'm on 2 grade 7 reserve lists for different roles (all details must match to be offered to the teams) I've been on them since March and April. It will always depend on what other recruiting line managers are looking for. When they send to HR their recruitment request, the top reserve CV should be sent to them for review and offer, if the CV doesn't hold the skills they are looking for, they will advertise it outwards.

SC at the moment, I've had 1 take 10 weeks (interviewed end of Jan, started beginning of June) another I know is already at 10 weeks and SC not through yet.
Higher clearances are taking much much longer.
Resource shortages everywhere

Some parts of CS now on recruitment freeze. SC normally about 6 mths

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 13/07/2023 07:31

As a CS recruiter I LOVE the reserve list and will always utilise it before going out for recruitment when possible. It is so much easier than launching a full recruitment campaign and means I can get someone in loads quicker.

If I was vetted for civil service 4 yrs ago and left ( seconded) and I go back- I take it I need a new vetting- it’s not still valid? (SC)
thanks

Yep, sorry. Even need to do security checks moving between government departments.

Yes but I'm talking 18 years ago. Got a call about 8 months later with a post. I had forgot all about it but it was a nice surprise
