Redundancy

Family member told today they are at risk of redundancy and that their consultation meeting is tomorrow and to look at the available roles with a view of saying what they want to be considered for.
Firstly feels a little out of order not giving any time to actually digest it all and consider the roles properly and any questions they might have.

My question however is around the pool of people up for redundancy- 2 are at my family member’s grade and then 2 employees below them.

2 roles are available one at each grade and these jobs have incorporated what all 4 roles currently do. Can the lower grade employees be offered the higher grade role or are those at that higher grade already a priority? or is it purely on their skills? Could family member ultimately end up being line managed by the person she currently manages?

Hope that all makes sense! I’ve advised to call ACAS in the morning but want to get some info ready if possible considering the meeting is tomorrow

How did they get on with the meeting?
I’ve had an email this evening to say mine on Tuesday. I’ve been offered alternative hours but they don’t suit me..

Sorry to hear the redundancy, currently in similar circumstances. Finishing end of July, I know it's just a job but I really liked my role. Sending solidarity ❤️

Sorry to hear that. If the hrs are different I’m sure it’s classed as ‘alternative’ employment rather than ‘suitable alternative’ employment. Difference being if you reject a role they deem as suitable alternative, they can not pay the redundancy so I’d check before you give an answer.

my family member decided to reject the prospect of a lower job (£15k less it’s an insult!) and take the money. Not even a week to think about it!

Such a shame when you like your job. Onto bigger and better things!! 🤞🏻

I'm finding out about the next step of my possible redundancy tomorrow. It's really shit.

It’s tough isn’t it.
I hope yours goes well tomorrow.
