Civil Service Interview

Hi, I am majorly overthinking this however I had a civil service interview Friday for an AO position. The interview was 25 minutes long and just felt really short. They didn't ask me any follow up questions on the behaviour questions. And after one of the questions the panel chair I assume asked if anyone had anything they wanted to add and someone said "nope I've got everything". I really wanted the job haha! So definitely feeling let down that it was only 25 minutes as this feels super short?

I left the CS about 2 years ago. Your interview sounds fairly standard. Follow up questions aren't asked as need to be consistent with all candidates.

Sounds like you may have demonstrated all the behaviours they were looking for . Good luck x

Thank you for your response. What confused me is me and my sons friends parent have both applied for the position as it suits us both well, our interviews were quite different and she was asked follow up questions. Hence why it threw me. But obviously I know it's probably not worth comparing our interviews

That's reassuring to hear. It's so hard to tell how I did! Thank you! X

Agree with others - if you weren't asked follow up questions it's likely that you did a good job of demonstrating the behaviours they were looking for. Fingers crossed for you!

I do a lot of interviewing for CS and we would only ask questions if the initial answer was incomplete. Interviews below SEO level rarely take longer than 30mins.

Agree completely. I don't ask follow on questions when you've included everything I need in your answer. Lots of follow on questions are usually to pull the information the interviewer needs. I interview a lot and even I was surprised how much quicker EO interviews were versus HEO/SEO and above

@dizzygirl1 thank you for the insight! All these comments have definitely relaxed me abit. Hopefully I hear soon 🤞🏻

Generally if no follow up either you have done really well and covered off everything or so badly they don't feel you can say anything to redeem. but usually they'd at least ask you another example for the first couple just to give you another chance if it was the latter.

So fingers crossed

Boymama22 · 12/07/2023 10:59

@Bells3032 thank you for your response! Yeah I was kind of rationalising myself and telling myself they would've at least asked me a follow up on my first answer if they thought it was bad! Thank you!
