Job interview next week - feeling my age

I have been given an internal interview at work next week and am struggling to articulate a feeling I am having about only just starting a part of development in my 40s.

Out of uni I did a totally different job for a decade. Then I had kids, took redundancy, and ultimately went self employed doing virtual EA work. It went well and a client offered me an employee admin position, and I took it.

it means I’m in my early 40s in a basic admin role and I’m applying for a team leader position. I don’t know why but I’m starting to feel anxious. The people I’m interviewing against are much younger, obvious choices to develop. But equally I don’t want to stay just doing admin.

what if I don’t get it, do I just stay doing admin for the next 25 years. I never thought I’d be employed again after my last experience, and can’t imagine working somewhere else.

im genuinely not concerned about the interview. But am feeling wary of a big change, which is not like me at all!!

if anyone has any insights or reassurance about only developing a career as you hit middle age I’d appreciate it.

I am 46, leaving my job in Sept and moving to a different country! I am scared beyond belief and going to try new things with a friend.

I have suffered from anxiety and depression all my life so the last few years have worked out who I am and what I want. I studied online and got a masters so now I am ready to concur the world.

I have "wasted" half my life and wont waste the rest.

Its never too late. Believe in yourself and know you have the experience, personality and desire to be a success and even role model / mentor to younger staff members!

The interview will be a breeze and the company will be lucky to have you!

Good luck x

I'd have a good think about what benefits your maturity and experience bring and focus on those. Don't underestimate your worth. You CAN do this! You deserve it!

Thanks both. I know I’m perfectly capable of doing the job and doing it well. However, it’s really nice to hear that back from others.

m I wouldn’t have applied I’d I didn’t think I would be good at it.

@GibKev your move sounds exciting. Much more challenging than my change! That’s amazing.

Not convinced that went so well. Just a gut feeling. I’ll know sometime early next week apparently.
