Enhanced DBS Check

Can anyone offer me any advice on how long these take? I have been provisionally offered a new job however I cannot hand my notice in until I receive the formal job offer which is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check. I completed my part of the application over two weeks ago and when I check the status it says 'Ready for Processing' and it has been at that stage for about 10 days!! So from what I understand it has not been submitted and then it is likely to be about 2 weeks.

My current workplace is becoming unbearable. I have a long notice period which is being enforced and I just want to have a finish date in my head to make it a bit more bearable that I am leaving. My employer knows about the new job as they have had to provide references and even though I have asked them to agree to a date at the end of September they will not agree to this until I officially hand my notice in.

I have no concerns over the result of the DBS Check however I am reluctant to hand my notice in until I have the official job offer just incase as I really cannot afford to not have a job.

I’ve done two checks lately and they both came back in a couple of weeks so it should be any time.

I'm the safeguarding officer and the one I did last Friday came back today

We did 3 enhanced checks last year because we needed them before we could host Ukrainian refugees. They were all submitted at the same time.

DD's took 4 days (she was only 16 so not much to check)
Mine took 10 days
DP took nearly 4 weeks

There seems to be no rhyme or reason

I started work in a school earlier this year and my enhanced DBS took about a week.

When I check the status online it is saying 'Ready for Processing' so I am assuming this means it has not been submitted yet! And then the actual process begins so I am at least 2 weeks off!

I am starting to consider handing my notice in on Monday in any event which enable me to finish in September. I am just worried the new employer could pull the offer and I really cannot afford to be out of work.

I was offered the job 5 weeks ago and just getting frustrated by the lack of progress and struggling in a job I really cannot stand!

Have you had two emails? One when you filled in the application and one when you had your documents verified by your soon to be employer? If they haven’t seen the original documents and then verified your identify on the system the hold up could be with them? So maybe contact the hr department to ask if they’ve completed the document verification their end?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm still waiting for mine (Submitted by HR 22nd May). Whizzed through steps 1-3 in just one day, but stuck with the police on Step 4 since 24th May 😓. It's so infuriatingly random. I've never lived abroad, and have lived a the same address for the past 9 years.

I've had an email today confirming that it has been submitted. But I suppose it still doesn't mean that it will be quick from here! It really does seem incredibly random on how long they take! I don't think I can risk handing my notice in yet though unfortunately I'll just have to stick it out and hope it comes through quickly!

Fingers crossed for you! In the past I've had them come through within a couple of weeks, so it's quite frustrating!

Any update? I hit 60 days on stage 4 yesterday and managed to escalate today.
