PAYE help please

I finished my last job last Nov, and started a new one 5 June.
pay is £30k plus
i wasn’t taxed for my first pay. When I queried it was because I have earnt less than my personal allowance. Shouldn’t that be calculated over the year?
it’s SAGE payroll if that makes a difference.
Employer insists it is correct and I can’t find HMRC guidance on it.

That is correct. It’s calculated monthly but you have April, May and June allowance all applied to the June pay because you didn’t earn anything in April or May.
When you get your July pay you’ll start to see tax appearing.
Its probably just worth checking that your tax code is correct- it should show on your payslip.
