Hi everyone.

I joined a new team in November and it's been over 6 months in this role (1st time as a band 7) it's non clinical.

I line manage two band 6s (who literally need me to spoonfeed them everything - my previous band 4s had more autonomy) - I genuinely don't know how work gets done. I tend to finish most days at near 6, (my hours are 9-5) my senior management doesn't care. (Everyone is out for themselves kind of mentality)

My question is, I want that band 7 experience for my next job, but I don't want to leave yet, as it'll look bad on paper leaving after 6 months.

What do people think? Best to stay a year at least then leave?

Pressed post beofe I could add more.

Ultimately I'm not happy with the team chemistry, struggling to feel settle in. Whilst I do enjoy the pay up to a band 7, I kinda regret leaving my old b6 role in my previous job

Not to be rude but as a band 7 isnt it your job to lead the team. Maybe your band 6,s struggle because they dont know what is expected of them. The chemistry of the team maybe off due to having a change in management. As a band 7 its your job to bring the team together. Your post sounds as if you dont want anyone bothering you and you are only sitting in this position until you get a better job. People pick up on this vibe very quickly. As management you only get out what you put in.

Agree with pp. Far too many managers in the nhs are poor leaders. It is your (very small) team. Empower them, teach them, find out what their aspirations are, and support them. It’s not all about you.
