Is a rejection after an interview usually a call or an email?

Hi everyone,

I applied for my dream job at the local Council and was interviewed last Thursday. I felt like it had gone really well and they made all the right noises (including saying I'd make great friends with someone already on the team!)

they said they'd be in touch later on Thursday or Friday with the outcome.

They haven't been in touch and my Taleo status is still on "Invited to interview"

If I didn't get the job - would they email or call? I'm feeling all anxious and sad about the whole thing.

They might not contact you at all🙄

Unfortunately this has happened to me many times

AfricanGrey · 12/06/2023 11:07

We send an email, saying that if you'd like to discuss further or want feedback a call can be arranged.

Snozzlemaid · 12/06/2023 11:09

I work for our council and we would always telephone to discuss

Ihatesponges · 12/06/2023 11:15

Thanks everyone. Quite a mix of experiences :(

Same. Even after a 2nd interview that went well.

OccasionalHope · 12/06/2023 11:43

Often silence.

but they may have offered it to someone but are waiting for them to accept or refuse, or reference checks to come through, before formally rejecting the second or third favoured candidates.

Good luck!

I was a bit too outing so had my previous post removed.

I assume I haven't got the job. I feel so sad! I would have loved that job and would have been so proud to work there ☹️

Ime there is no way to tell and all employers do it differently. I'd expect a phone call to be very very unlikely though, but I've only ever worked in the private sector where an email or nothing is the norm

Popcorn640 · 12/06/2023 12:56

I've only ever applied for jobs at councils (south east, and midlands), and have always had a phone call whether it's a yes or no.

Squirrelsnut · 12/06/2023 12:58

I got an email and an offer of a feedback meeting recently.

ForensicFlossy · 12/06/2023 12:59

I would wait until tomorrow and then send a really polite email asking if a decision has been made. There is every chance that they just haven't made the call yet.

ForensicFlossy · 12/06/2023 12:59

And to answer your question, I always call.

Motnight · 12/06/2023 13:06

I would wait until Thursday and then send an email. Sometimes recruiters are waiting for the successful candidate to accept the offer before letting other candidates know that they haven't got the job. Sometimes it's simply taking longer to make a decision who to offer the job too.

Lcb123 · 12/06/2023 13:19

Usually you’d at least get a generic rejection email from the system.

Piffpaffpoff · 12/06/2023 13:20

So far along my job-hunting this year I have had one call to say I hadn't got the job and the rest have. been emails. They have often taken longer than they said it would in the interview, I presume due to a bit of back and forth with the sucessful candidate.

I just received my offer 🥳
