Hi all ,at today I had to deny someone a service they were not eligible for( government role ) . They were not happy . Himself and his partner are well known for being exceptional hostile/ abusive to staff and I had been warned .

He said be would be making a complaint as he feels I was racist . Manager is supportive . But I still feel terrible . Has anyone had this happen before ? I did nothing wrong , there is no evidence , but it is unsettling . I think the complaint will go to my manager .

Don't worry you did nothing wrong, your hands were tied and you couldn't bend the system to give them what they wanted. Don't worry once they have calmed down they will realise how unreasonable they have been , it was probably a knee jerk reaction.

Sorry you are going through this. Sounds a bit like an ex friend of mine who accuses everyone of being racist. The latest is his GP who has fired him as a patient. He wants to fight it. Told him just to go to another GP. He wouldn't have it "because of the principle".
Some people are just too hot headed for their own good.

If you didn’t do anything wrong don’t worry at all. As a black person I absolutely hate it when people make fake / untrue accusations in the name of race, because when something is actually a racial issue it’s then not taken seriously. Don’t let it spoil your day.

agree with PP about people who are a. Too hotheaded and b. Can’t fathom not getting their own way all the time.

How did the scenario go?

If it was simply as you said; You refused him a service that he was not eligible for, then no I wouldn't say that is racist.
