Negotiating on pay range?

Offered a job which is outside of my background (but transferable skills!) with salary advertised as between x & y (mid 20's) per annum. They have offer me y (top of the advertised range). This will be going from around 0.7 part time to full time, so whilst this is a couple of K below my current FTE salary, actual take home will be higher (and a different kinda sector & role to current). Looking for advice as to whether I could/should negotiate higher that the top of the the advertised range? Overall benefits less favourable, but feel would massively improve my working conditions.

In my opinion, they've made it clear what the salary bracket was and you agreed to interview for the position. They've offered you the very top of the salary bracket - do you have a legitimate reason why you believe you should be paid more than that? If no, I think you'll just look like you're taking the piss by asking for more money than was even advertised. Different story if they'd offered you lower than the highest advertised salary but they haven't. You risk looking like a cheeky fucker if you ask for more, especially if you don't actually have a reason for wanting more (any by your own admission the role is outside of your background)
