Changing notice period

I work as school support staff and contractually need to give 1 month notice. I am regularly assaulted and verbally abused so I know I won't be returning in September but am planning on handing in my notice now, giving 31st August as my end date, explaining that this is to give them time to recruit my replacement as they can't do this during summer holiday.

I'm interviewing for a couple of other jobs soon. If I then needed to change my notice period to my contractual month, could I change my original date?

Or can anyone help with a way I could word it in my resignation that at the moment I'm giving notice until end of aug but they should be prepared for the possibility that it may be shorter?

I think you are over complicating things. Hand in your notice when you are ready to and when you are obliged to. Your employer has given you a one month notice period because that is how long they deem necessary to recruit a replacement.
