secondments turning permanent

Hi

I work for a large company that has currently just gone through a merger.. and with that has come redundancies and alot of change

before we merged many people were on secondments.. and their posts are now being advertised to the entire company as permanent. Most of if not all of them are managerial level .. some senior

Obviously the people currently in post have been applying and in all of the circumstances I have heard of they have secured the permanent role

I have just been interviewed today for a job that I’m pretty sure is already filled by someone on a secondment

I didn’t realise when I applied.. I was also given less than 24 hours notice for the interview which was at 11 this morning, I got the call around 12pm yesterday

I feel pretty gutted as I’m nearly almost certain after looking in to it that this role is almost certainly filled and this is just a tick box to advertise it to everyone

why do companies do this? It seems like a total waste of time for everyone involved ?

Also to add it’s a two stage process which seems even more a waste of time! I find out end of the week if I have made it to stage two

It is almost certainly being done because of the redundancies and the TUPE merger. There is no absolute requirement to adveryise or have competitive recruitment at all. But that can leave a company wide open to allegations if they do, and that gets much more complicated if you have had recent redundancies and / or TUPE transfers. So the answer is probably "covering their backs".

@Quveas thought as much regarding court if their backs.. just really disheartening almost certain I won’t make the second round now almost don’t want to answer the call when it comes
