Working part of week in London... Accommodation?

I'm considering taking a hybrid role working 3 days per week in London zone 1, 2 from home in the Midlands.

To make it financially worthwhile, as well as leaving my family for half the week, I need as cheap accommodation as possible with the option to cook/heat up ready meals.

I've found some potentials on Airbnb, single rooms in shared houses around £40 per night in zone 4. I'd probably drive so parking would also be a big help. Then tube into the office. This option would cost £800 per month including the traveling!

Does anyone have other suggestions of websites where I might find something suitable? I'd be up for glamping pods, a campervan on someone's drive, a narrow boat, garden room or anything else a bit quirky!

Thanks for any ideas!

We had a Monday to Thursday lodger a few years ago in London and it worked very well for us - I think we charged about £500pcm. Have a look on Spare Room for this category and I remember there being a website solely for weeknight renters as well

Parking May be a stretch though - we had on street parking for ourselves and couldn't have used up dozens of visitor passes for a lodger

Are you basing that figure on 3 nights a week in the airbnb? Would it be possible for you to travel down from the Midlands early morning of day 1 and just stay over for 2 nights a week?

Where is your office in London? I would guess the answer is looking a few steps further out on the train to be on the outskirts of London. £500 would be incredible value right now.

As to a quirky idea, I remember there was a service linking older people to renters - you live with them and help out and (from memory) stay for free.

I don’t know any specific websites but would you consider help exchange or companionship? Many older people have a spare room and offer reduced rates for people willing to share a meal and their days news / perhaps do a bit of cleaning or help with other tasks. Helpex is a website or used to be! . But you could try ageuk or some such as a first port of call.

I work in London and have colleagues who stay the night at a hotel midweek. It's rocketed in price because more people moved out of London and are doing the same as you. I don't think you'll find cheaper...

It's based on driving down early on day 1, staying night 1 and night 2, driving home after work on day 3.

Interesting, will investigate this thanks!

I was going to suggest the Spare Room website too as that gives the option of selecting mid week renting.

Where in London will you be working?

A very long time ago, DM used an organisation called Monday to Friday, and had a very nice soldier lodge with her during the week for a couple of years, whilst he was based in a Whitehall job.

They are now, of course, a website Monday to Friday
