I posted recently about how unhappy I was in my current situation. No down time, hardly any weekends off and lots of nightshifts but very well paid. I was burnt out!

My plan was to stay there for another year or 2 to renovate our house but my husband was so supportive and I decided to look for something else. I live in a very rural area so it's not that easy to get a job unless you want to work in hospitality.

I decided during another long nightshift to reach out to a local employer that is in the line of business I'd really like to retrain in. I did a course in the subject fir a year pre covid and loved it.
Initially he said he wasnt really looking for anyone at the moment but could only offer part time hours if he did, i explained that wouldnt work for me, but he asked me to come in for a chat anyway.

I did my home work on courses that i could enrol on to get my skills up and funding options if i was employer funded. He was really helpful, I tried to put across what I could bring and how keen I was. At the end he asked about my salary expectations and said he would get back to me after speaking to his accountant.

Well it took a couple of days but he called in Friday and offered me a full time role in my dream job. I actually can't quite believe it! I am taking a drop in salary but he can give me what I need to make it viable plus the development opportunities are fantastic as ill be his first employee so im basically defining my own job. Plus I can wfh if need be which I've never been able to do ever!
I have it all in writing by email and should have a contract drawn up by Monday when I can hand my notice.

I just wanted to share my story with you all as I got some great advice here, take the chance, write an email or make a phone call. You have nothing to lose!

I'm now so looking forward to making up for lost time with family and friends!

Fantastic - just goes to show: do your research, know why you'd be a good fit, know your negotiating position and be positive and enthusiastic!

Thank you so much, I'm so positive that this was the right decision although the money is always a sticking point.
I can't keep going on with zero work life balance, this is mon to fri, I can't remember the last time I had a full weekend off.
I'm so encouraging of others to do the same and have confidence in yourself!

This is amazing. So pleased for you.
It may be a drop in salary but all the other benefits and better work life balance will make it worth it I'm sure.
