Do I just leave

I started a new admin role about 3 months ago. I just dont seem to be getting on with it. They are throwing us in the deep end a bit (not much training etc) today I picked up a mistake that I made. I had processed a form I shouldn't of as it didn't have a signature on it. Now I'm worrying that I could of easily made that mistake again and just don't know about it ! I'd hate for anybody to feel like I was rubbish at my job. But I feel like the nature of this job just isn't for me and I dont want like worrying about work out of work time. Anybody else left a job whilst Still in their probation?

What will happen if you do look for another job and leave?

Kayguildford1 · 26/05/2023 15:29

I'd have alot less stress and anxiety! But does not look good on your CV does it

Do you have a proper induction?
probation period is as much for YOU to know if it’s the right job as it is for an employer. If you don’t think it’s the right job I’d continue and look for something else. But if you would otherwise want it and their induction isn’t up to scratch then you should be honest and say what support you need. Your manager should have having reviews with you and it’s your opportunity to also raise issues

It's only 3 months, give yourself time, it could take 6 months to feel comfortable in most jobs 😀

If you really hate it and don't think things will improve, then by all means leave. However I can't say you can be sure that the next job isn't going to have its own challenges!

Thanks, I have spoken with my team leader about issues etc. I just dont get a good feeling for this particular team. I feel like I am just really struggling to get the whole job front right for me.

Start looking and applying this week. One short term in a job won't make much difference to your CV and can always use a generic "different expectations for the role" reason for moving on in interview.

Hang in there. I know exactly how you feel - I am on my sixth week in a new post (management) in the same company but a different department and I feel like my last 7 years with the company has been pointless as I feel like I know nothing. I wake up each day dreading the day ahead because I feel like I'm doing a rubbish job, I hate being the newbie and getting to know teams again and making small talk.

I keep telling myself it takes about six months to really settle with a new job, and up to a year to really get to grips with it. Luckily I only saw this move as temporary anyway as a bit of leverage into something else in 12-18 months time so I'm just gritting my teeth and getting on with it. But if something comes up in the interim I will apply (got nothing to lose!).

Keep your eye on the jobs pages if you like, as that can't do any harm. If you get an interview and they ask about this job, just be honest and say you are disappointed that the role isn't what you expected / you don't think you're the right fit for the company / department (because that is OK! It shows you are self aware).

Have you spoken to your supervisor / manager about how you are feeling? I'm having weekly 1-2-1's with my manager at the moment until I settle in and each week I've been saying the same thing, so she is aware (not that anything has changed!). I've had no induction really, no handover. I'm just figuring things out as I go which isn't ideal! I like to have clear objectives and goals but it seems I need to figure these out for myself in this role which is new for me and something I need to adjust to I think.

I am always on the verge of emailing my old boss and asking if there is an opening coming up in my old department at the end of each week at the minute!

Thanks for all your replies, a part of me thinks hang in there, a bigger part of me thinks if its making me unhappy life is too short ! We are a team of 20 with 4 off long term sick which makes me question the environment ( i know i cant presume why they are off) and just comments people have made in the team about management etc. Hate not knowing what to do and being unsure if myself
