Interview at the local council

I have an interview in 5 days, it is for a homelessness prevention officer role.
Until now I worked as a cleaner so I have no idea about job interviews for a public servant role. Any tips please?
Thank you.

Build your responses around the STAR model (situation, task, action, result) and emphasise your desire to serve the local community. Be familiar with the council’s priorities (the strategy should be available online) and don’t discount the value of experience outside of work whether that’s voluntary, social, or parental activities.

good luck!

Oh also be ready with an answer on how you support equality diversity and inclusion. They may not ask a question directly but expect you to work it into another answer.

Get on the internet. No sunshine or bank holiday for you! Start reading everything you can about what your council does, then widen the net and see what others do. Check out charities locally and nationally. Think about the things that contribute to homelessness - domestic violence, addictions, poverty, mental ill health etc. Remember that it's often a revolving door, so those who were homeless need support to address the things that make them homeless or their new home placements will break down... Read all those aganist the job description and person specification, because that will tell you how you will need to action what you are reading in practice if you get the job.
