FTC - whether to apply WWYD?

Looking for some advice around whether to apply for this role please? 🤔 I work for the local government and have done for 20 years. I'm 5 months into a very dull role that I am not enjoying.

In the same organisation a role has been advertised but is only a 9 month FTC with possibly a permanent contract (a risk I know). However, this role is more money, provides potential development opportunities and is much more suited to my skill set. WWYD?

Would they consider it as a secondment?

@GoodChat unfortunately not which is a shame.

In local government, it's a slight risk but I'd say go for it. If the job doesn't continue you still have 20 years of continuous service - they will make every attempt to avoid redundancy so the worst case in redeployment is that you end up in another job that you don't really like but can do; an if there is nothing else you will get redundancy. I'd say the risk is low (and there's nothing to stop you looking at other jobs over the period of the FTC) - only you can decide if it's worth taking though.
