Possible new job - HELP!!

Hey guys,

So was wondering if you could help me… I went to a job interview when I was 36 weeks pregnant (FTM) for my dream job. I was successful in getting the job and the employer said they’d wait until September for me to start (I said I’d only take 6 months maternity).

However my current employer have said they’d change my hours so that they are more family friendly plus I wouldn’t have to go back until January 2024.. My new job would mean I’d have to do on call too so wouldn’t be so family friendly. I feel guilty as my new employer has been waiting for me to start since February so turning it down would make me seem so awful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊

Do what's best for you. They'll find someone else! Or go to them and tell them what your current employer has offered and see if they'll match it, if not .... cya! Don't feel guilty, it's every man for himself out there these days.

Just tell them the situation has changed and you won't be accepting the job.

If you have accepted the job you need to resign.

I’d think about your reasons for applying elsewhere/wanting to leave your present role first. You say it’s your dream job, so is it the hours or having to start after 6 months that has you questioning yourself now?

If it’s still your dream job I’d say it’s definitely worth trying to leverage the offer your current role has made and seeing what happens.

Do what makes you happy.
It's not the best situ for the other party, but at the end of the day this is about you, and you need to think of yourself on this occasion!

If the new role is your 'dream job' why would you duck out so quickly? Just because there's an offer of a few months more ML from your current employer? Come January you'll be working in your non-dream job
