Any of you guys been in this position? In March got made redundant from a job I’d been in 10 years as the company closed. Managed to get this job, a company that’s been running since 60’s so should be secure, my father did his work experience here lol, Month in work started drying up 2 people and all trainees sacked, Monday two more gone. I expect I’d have been gone by now but I think the boss is too embarrassed, at the interview I got a big speech about the plans for the future how busy they are etc, he blew it all up so well. Granted i haven’t really liked the company that much tbh.

And just to spice things up further, no sooner had I got this job than my landlord announced he’s selling the house, currently serving our notice period and have been unable to find even a garden shed to rent.

How do I get myself out of this mess? If the company does fold which is looking likely this will be 6 times I have been made redundant where the company has closed. You couldn’t make that up really, 6 times???? There’s just too much going on at the min and I can’t even think straight tbh.

I’d start looking for and applying jobs in a different industry. Start now rather than waiting to see if they let you go or not.

Sorry OP it sounds very stressful

I'd just ask the question honestly.

You've noticed a lot of people are being let go. Is your job at risk?

This place operates kinda funny. In past jobs if you run out of work you get sent to do something else, in here the just tell u to stay home for x amount of days unpaid, if it doesn’t improve after a week or so you’re gone. I do have work but it’s very slack and a lot of my day is spent trying to look like I’m doing something.

I’m thinking I might have to retrain or something but in my 40s I feel like the best days are behind me.

What do you do now?

You're 42 this year? Bit dramatic to say your best days are behind you so young.
