Concerned about pre employment checks?

I have recently gone for a new job and have had to provide a detailed 6 year reference history. This has now all been completed by the external company, or so I thought. Today I had an email from the external company saying there was a delay in consolidating and reporting on my information. Does that mean there’s been a problem with a reference somewhere? Isn’t it as simple as providing the gathered references to the new job. I’m stressing as I really need this job to work out and the delay is pushing back my start date.

They have had all the references and checks in since Monday. What could possibly be holding things up? I don’t seem to be getting a clear answer from the screening company that is just making me more upset/ paranoid that something is wrong. 😭

Maybe they've just had staff off sick or didn't receive all the information they need

Thanks @GoodChat they said they had everything when I asked on Monday and when I asked yesterday the pre checker said they were just collating the information together. HR then emailed me to say my start date might need to be pushed back if they can’t complete screening in time. My start date was supposed to be tomorrow because that date worked best for my new manager. I’ve been sent all of the IT equipment and Zoom meeting invitations. I don’t know whether just to log on as I was supposed to tomorrow morning or wait

Still no news on whether I’ve passed screening or not and HR haven’t responded to my emails

I'd log on this morning.

If nothing terrible has flagged up they'll let you start work while they finalise the report.

Just log on, whats the worst that can happen? I went through these checks and never really got any notification I'd 'passed'. Not being told you're fired means you still have your job imo
